The National Museum of Art

Hosted in a beautiful palace, built in 1837, The National Museum of Art is a great place to spend a sunny October morning. If you feel very romantic, go to the European Gallery to admire the delicacy of Pissarro blossomed gardens and the force of Rodin's sculptures. If you are in the mood for something old, go to the Old Romanian Art collection to see the most amazing works of Romanian painters and craftsmen. This collection includes the Lapidarium, a place full of history. After you see the beginnings , you can also enjoy the Modern Romanian Art collection. Bellu Graveyard

This weekend I went for a walk at Bellu Graveyard. Even if it sounds spooky, I assure you it isn't. It's a peaceful and sometimes funny place. Here are some photos I took...

The Eye

For those who haven't seen Gin-Gwai (The Eye-the original version), the remake can be a pretty nice visual experience. Jessica Alba is a plus. So is the main idea of the movie. This kind of things could really happen to people who undergo major organ transplants. That's scary!But the movie isn't... so don't worry...you can eat popcorn and kiss your girlfriend during most of the time.
If you are looking for a scary night, try to find the original. As in many other cases, the Hollywood remade version pales in comparison with the original, despite having a bigger budget, bigger stars and of course, better visual effects.

Roasted red peppers

Do you like red peppers? I do! You can buy red peppers and roast them yourself. But it's time consuming. So you might want to consider buying jarred peppers that have already been roasted for you. One of the best jarred roasted on the market are Giorgio's. They are made in Bulgaria only with natural ingredients. They add taste and texture to any dish. You can use them in salads and omelets , or you can keep it simple and enjoy their particular taste with some feta cheese and a good bread.
In Bucharest, you may find them at Primavara Supermarket with 9.8 ron. Enjoy and don't forget to be creative! Kitchen is a playground...

Festival 39

Festival 39 is one of my favorite places in Bucharest. It's the perfect cafe for a Sunday morning. You go there around 11 o'clock, you drink a Honey-Bunny cafe while you wait for the best chicken burrito you ever ate in your entire life. Meanwhile, you can enjoy the old epoque music and take a look at the street life. Festival 39 is near Unirea square, so there are always different kind of people taking a walk just outside your window.It' s strange feeling to be in such a relaxing and cozy place, but still feel the fuzz that surrounds you.
To make your day even better, you can order a desert...they are just perfection! Even if the prices are quite expensive, you deserve a treat once in a while!Go for it!

Earth Hour

Don't forget about Earth Hour! Tomorrow, at 20.00 o'clock, turn off all the electrical devices in your home. This is a echo-challenge for all the people that give a crap about Earth and the way we destroy it every day, even if we like to say that we are developing a modern society. Don't forget! This planet is everybody's ,but not nobody's!

Dr.Grigore Lese: Horea in grumaz-Gherasim Cartita

Let' go tonight at 18.00 o'clock to understand a bit of our traditions. Gherasim Cartita is one of the last authentic folk singer who sings with all his soul. I guarantee that his music will make time stop for a minut...
Nothing is more impressive than the power of our roots. Even if we live in a modern world, we have fancy dresses, we eat ultra-processed food and we use internet more often than we use the toilet, our feelings and thoughts still have a scent of old Romania.

Jumper

Based on an intriguing idea (a genetic anomaly allows a young man to teleport himself anywhere), the movie offers you a special effect tour around the world. You have to see this in the theaters for amazing landscapes and city scenes. From the Colosseum in Rome, to the pyramids in Egypt... Besides that , I wasn't very impressed!Too much setup. This entire film should have been the first half-hour of a bigger story.So in conclusion Jumper is a fun, action packed, special effects heavy movie that will entertain you if you don't have too high hopes for it. It's not going to win any Oscars but that doesn't matter and it has potential for some good sequels.

Recommended only for days when you just want to be entertained...

Uptown for Dragobete

If you want to eat some great food in a spectacular place, you can go to a fancy, cosmopolitan, sophisticated restaurant, called Uptown.
Situated in one of the oldest and most exclusive areas of Bucharest, Uptown is much more than a restaurant- it's a reflection of Bucharest's modern society.
Its location is amazing- a house from the inter-war period situated at the crossing of 4 streets, in a central but peacefully area, in an obvious opposition with the city's agitation. A place to run from the unchained world so you could have a relaxed, sophisticated dinner.
Its pleasant atmosphere along with the inner design reminding you of the stylish Parisian bistros make uptown one of the favorite places for the foreign business men visiting Romania.
The perfect place for a business lunch but also for a romantic dinner, Uptown reveals the modern (city of) Bucharest: discreet and alert in the same time, romantic and agitated.
Uptown has a wonderful ambience, has the perfect background "music" of the chatter of happy dinners which lends a warmth and buzz to the place. You can find it at 2 Rabat st., Bucharest. You must try some pasta and the mango mousse is a must for desert!

Sweeney Todd- Bloody Good

I invite you to see a movie from the Gothic imagination of director Tim Burton and starring the amazing Johnny Depp. "Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber on Fleet Street" is a bloody tale of murder, music, meat pies and one's man desperate desire for revenge. At is heart, " Sweeney Todd" is a horror musical. It is also a riveting character drama and a wonderful dark comedy. But above everything else, it is pure entertainment.It was bloody, disturbing, gruesome...and I loved every minute of it! Deep makes a awesome Sweeney but I think Helena Bonham Carter is my favorite performance in this film, she is very funny and makes the character her own! Go in to the theater with an open mind and embrace the story. This is an amazing film and I recommend it to every one (except to people who have week stomachs)!
You may see it today at:
- Cityplex- 17:30; 22:15;
-Hollywood Multiplex- 17:45; 22:45;
-Movieplex Cinema -13:15; 17:45; 22:00.

Searching for the real bread

I've been looking for a bread that tastes likes real, traditional bread. Don't get me wrong. I like pain aux noix or granary bread once in a while, but for my everyday meal I would like some fresh bread with just the right aroma, texture and taste. Eating the crunchy crust of a hot bread
remembers me of my childhood. So I searched a while for a bread that resembled the most to my memories. Even if I couldn't find it in a bakery so I can enjoy it while is still hot, yesterday I found a delicious bread at La Fourmi Supermarket.
It's called pane casareccio
, or "country bread", - large in size, round or oblong in form. Made of whole wheat flour, the ingredients are no more than water and natural yeast.
The crust is not very crunchy, but the taste enriches the flavor of the food. I'll keep looking for the perfect one!

Historic memories

A single object tells tens of history pages, stories about real people, and a museum is the crossroad of stories.Founded in 1970, the History National Museum illustrates the history of Romania from the Paleolithic to the modern age. The main departments of the museum are: prehistoric, Dacian, Greek, Roman and medieval archaeology.The permanent displays include a plaster cast of the entirety of Traian's Column, the Romanian Crown Jewels , and the Pietroasele Tresure. You will be surprised by our ancestor' s level of civilization. Another interesting thing is the mixture between Dacian and Roman influences. As you pass by Dacian and Roman collections and you are focusing on the medieval exponents, you feel that everything makes sense. You are an actor on a good play, not in a parody with cast from 2 different movies badly directed. Don't miss a rare opportunity to be proud that you live in Romania. Calea Victoriei 12, Bucharest. Wednesday-Sunday from 9-17.

Awake

I invite you to a psychological thriller about a common occurrence called "anesthetic awareness" , a horrifying phenomenon wherein a patient's failed anesthesia leaves him fully conscious but physically paralyzed during surgery. His charming wife is forced to struggle with her own demons as a terrifying drama unfolds around the couple. The movie is not great. It's made in a Hitchcock like way with being scary, but not being gory.It isn't 100% accurate, and maybe it does have it's flaws, but you know what? Who cares?! It's just a movie, if you seen it with an open mind, and have nothing in your head about surgery then you will enjoy the film.
If you are a medical student, just ignore all the violations of the sterility rules, but keep your eyes on the screen for the morale of this movie.
You may see it this week at:
- Movieplex Cinema from 18.02-21.02 at 17:30 or 19:45;
-Hollywood Multiplex from 18.02-21.02 at 15:00 or 17:00.

Let it snow!

Is it me or snow is magic? The crystalline water ice makes everything seem so beautiful and candid. The town looks like a special land from tales with fairies and princesses. Did you know that is a widely held belief that no two snowflakes are alike? Strictly speaking, it is extremely unlikely for any two macroscopic objects in the universe to contain an identical molecular structure. But there are, nonetheless, no known scientific laws that prevent it. In a more pragmatic sense, it's more likely that two snowflakes are virtually identical if their environments were similar enough, either because they grew very near one another, or simply by chance. Similar or not, snowflakes are just another reason to smile and to be happy. Take a fuzzy coat and go out to smell the freshness of the air... Don't forget to drink a cup of hot wine with cinnamon tonight!Cheers!

I would like some water in the pool, please!

I love splashing around in a pool when I have the chance. Both useful and recreational, swimming is a great form of exercise.Because the density of the human body is very similar to that of water, the body is supported by the water and less stress is therefore placed on joints and bones.
Swimming is primarily an aerobic exercise due to the long exercise time, requiring a constant oxygen supply to the muscles, except for short sprints where the muscles work anaerobically . As with most aerobic exercise swimming is believed to reduce the harmful effects of stress. Swimming can improve posture and develop a strong lean physique, called, logically, a "swimmer's build": lean and spare throughout, with wide shoulders and a smaller lower body.
Where can you go for a swimming session? There are a few swimming pools in Bucharest. I advise you to try Complex Club Floreasca- 1 Mircea Eliade Blv.

Shopping for Valentine's Day

Love is in the air and shops are full with heart related items . Every February, across the world, candy, flowers, and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine.
Even if you don't really like foreign celebrations, don't miss a great opportunity to party with your friends or a romantic dinner with your lover. You can find lots of stuff that will make your significant other's blood pressure get high.
Because I'm chocolate addicted , I couldn't resist this. Dark chocolate flavoured Chili peppers from Lindt. You can find it at Cora with only 4,8 ron. It's HOT!
To calm all those butterflies in your stomach, you all you need is a kiss from the one you love and a glass of Chardonnay. "Mugur de vita" from Murfatlar is now on sale at Primavara Supermarket with only 11 ron.
Rich is the word that best both describes Chardonnay and explains its popularity. Its aroma is distinct, yet delicate, difficult to characterize, easier to recognize. It smells like apples and peaches. Its delicacy will conquer your body and soul for ever.I'm waiting for your comments!
